The Romanian Wine Promotion Association will host a Masterclass with MW Caroline Gilby on Sunday, the 13th of March, from 13:30 at Hall 13, Stand Forum Area 2. For a more easy access, use the interactive map

Those present will get to find out more about Aurelia Visinescu’s extraordinary blend, Avincis’s Negru de Dragasani, Balla Geza’s Stonewine,  Casa de Vinuri Cotnari’s unique Tamaioasa Romaneasca, Corcova Roy&Damboviceanu’s Feteasca Neagra, Davino’s Domaine Ceptura Rouge, LacertA’s famous Shiraz, Liliac’s sweet Nectar of Transylvania, Oprisor Winery’s memorable Cabernet Sauvignon, Petro Vaselo’s Feteasca Neagra, SERVE’s great Cuvee and Vinarte’s Prince. 

When asked what should one expect to hear there, MW Caroline Gilbyanswered very straight forward “I aim to show a snapshot of Romania through the lens of its wines. I like to give context and insight into the stories and people behind the wines, not just an analysis of winemaking techniques or over the top descriptive tasting notes (the audience can do this bit for themselves). I hope to show exciting local varieties and blends that are uniquely Romanian plus some international varieties to benchmark where Romania stands.

The wineries from the Romanian Wine Promotion Association come from all the important wine regions in Romania, recognized and protected. As an enthusiastic team filled with high expectations, the association is committed to set high standards in Romania’s wine culture and to create a strong impact on the international wine market. The very individualistic vintners from APVR share a common philosophy about how technology should be combined with tradition and a deep respect for their land. The quality of their work is increasing every harvest, thus creating some of the best wines on the world-wide-market in terms of price/quality ratio.
Romania has a long history in winemaking, but the first private winery dates since 1994. MW Caroline Gilby says that its still a relatively young industry, so still work in progress for many producers. “The best wines are of global standard, though most exciting when they clearly show a sense of their place of origin”.
